It's 4 PM in Kuala Lumpur, the sky has just opened, and you want to spend the next two hours somewhere cold and dry with a big screen. Then you search for a cinema and get a wall of names: GSC, TGV, Aurum, IMAX, ScreenX, Getha, Comfort Cabin. Half of them are in malls you've never heard of, and the prices run from a few dollars to more than $30.

Cream and I always like to go to a movie theater in a new country, and in Kuala Lumpur (KL) it turned into a habit. We went two or three times a month, often to wait out the afternoon rain.
This is our ranking of the best cinemas in Kuala Lumpur after three months of living there. We tried four, from a slightly run-down one that was confusing to find to a recliner bed with dinner served to our seats. One of them was clearly the best.

What Are the Best Cinemas in Kuala Lumpur? My Quick Answer
Aurum Theatre at The Exchange TRX is the best cinema in Kuala Lumpur. Every seat reclines, every ticket comes with food and a drink, and it has IMAX, ScreenX, and bed-style suites in one building. For a regular movie near Bukit Bintang, GSC LaLaport BBCC is a good, easy choice. Mid Valley is nice but far from the center, so only go if you're already there.
| Cinema | Where | What it has | Our take |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aurum Theatre | The Exchange TRX | IMAX, ScreenX, Getha Lux Suites, Comfort Cabins, Escape Studios | The best. Our favorite by far |
| GSC LaLaport BBCC | LaLaport BBCC, Bukit Bintang | 12 halls, including BIG and 4DX | Good for a regular movie |
| GSC Mid Valley Megamall | Mid Valley City | 21 halls, plus Aurum Theatre next door at The Gardens Mall | Nice, but far |
| TGV Pavilion KL (formerly dadi Cinema) | Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Bukit Bintang | Reopened by TGV in June 2026 | We went when it was dadi |
| TGV Suria KLCC | Suria KLCC | A bed cinema with smart mattresses | We didn't try it |

The Best Cinemas in Kuala Lumpur, Ranked
1. Aurum Theatre at The Exchange TRX // The Best Cinema in KL
Aurum Theatre is the luxury cinema brand of GSC (Golden Screen Cinemas), and the one on Level 3 of The Exchange TRX has 11 halls.1 It's the best cinema in KL, in my opinion, and it's a big reason The Exchange TRX became our favorite place in Kuala Lumpur.
There's no "standard" hall here. Every hall has reclining seats, and every ticket comes with food and a drink, from popcorn in IMAX to a full meal at your seat in the premium halls.
We started going for the Oscar-nominee replays, which Aurum was showing in its Maybank Comfort Cabin while we were in KL, at lower prices than usual. After that we kept coming back for IMAX, which became our everyday movie: a huge screen, comfy recliners, and a hall that was often almost empty. We tried ScreenX once and finished with the Getha Lux Suite, which we got for free with our GSC Rewards points.
We fell into a pattern there: a film first, then a wander through the shops, then dinner downstairs. Our guide to every hall at Aurum Theatre TRX covers which one to book, what's included, and what we ate.

Best for: anyone. If you see one movie in KL, see it here. Getting there: The Exchange TRX connects to the Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) MRT station. We lived in Bukit Bintang and always took a Grab, which is a short ride.
2. GSC LaLaport BBCC // The Easy Pick in Bukit Bintang
LaLaport BBCC is the anime mall of KL, with shops built for anime fans and gamers, and it's so cool. It also has a good cinema. GSC LaLaport BBCC has 12 halls over Levels 2, 3, and 3M of the mall's Entertainment Hub, including BIG halls with extra-large screens and 4DX halls with moving seats.2 It opened in August 2023, with a retro, pastel pink and baby blue interior.3
We watched a regular movie here, and it was a good cinema. It wasn't busy, either, which was true of the whole mall when we went. It doesn't have the food and recliners of Aurum, but if you're staying in Bukit Bintang and just want to see a movie, it's the closest good option.
Best for: a normal movie night close to Bukit Bintang. Add an hour for the anime shops, which our guide to the best malls in Kuala Lumpur covers.
3. GSC Mid Valley Megamall // Nice, but Far
Mid Valley Megamall is one of the biggest malls in KL, and GSC Mid Valley Megamall is a big cinema to match, with 21 halls on the 3rd floor.4 Right next door, inside The Gardens Mall, there's a second Aurum Theatre with Getha Lux Suites and Comfort Cabins.5
It was a nice cinema, and our movie there was in a premium hall (I remember it as Gold Class). But Mid Valley is far from the center, so it's not one I'd go to often, and leaving by car once a show lets out is an ordeal of its own. If you go in the evening or on a weekend, take the train instead.

Best for: a movie when you're already spending the day at Mid Valley or The Gardens Mall.
4. TGV Pavilion KL // Formerly dadi Cinema
Pavilion Kuala Lumpur is the best mall in the city, but its cinema has changed hands twice. When we were in KL, it was dadi Cinema, and we saw one movie there before it closed on March 5, 2026.6 It was a little run down, but still nice. The cinema took up a huge area, and it was confusing to find.
TGV Cinemas took over the space and opened on June 18, 2026, after we'd left.7 So we haven't seen the new version, but a fresh cinema in the most central mall in KL is promising.

Best for: combining a movie with a day in Bukit Bintang. Leave extra time to find the entrance.
5. TGV Suria KLCC // The Other Bed Cinema (We Didn't Try It)
To be upfront, we never watched a movie at TGV Suria KLCC, so this one isn't first-hand. It's inside Suria KLCC, the mall at the foot of the Petronas Towers, and it's where TGV opened a bed cinema with Coway BEREX smart mattresses in November 2024.8 At launch, a ticket was RM120 (about $29), including a meal, a drink, and dessert.9
If you're seeing the towers anyway and want to try a movie in bed, it's worth a look. Check the current price in the TGV app first.
Where to Find a Cinema With Beds in Kuala Lumpur
A movie in bed is the KL cinema experience to try at least once. You have three options:
- Getha Lux Suites at Aurum Theatre, The Exchange TRX. Bed-style recliners by Getha, the Malaysian mattress brand, with blankets and a full meal served to your seat. This is the one we tried, and it's where I'd watch a movie I love.
- Getha Lux Suites at Aurum Theatre, The Gardens Mall. The same idea, next to Mid Valley Megamall.5
- INDULGE bed cinema at TGV Suria KLCC. Smart mattresses you can adjust, with a meal, drink, and dessert included. We didn't try this one.

How Much Is a Movie Ticket in Kuala Lumpur?
A movie for the two of us usually cost $10 to $13, and our most expensive tickets came to $35.44. That's why the cinema was such an easy habit: two or three movies a month barely moved our cost of living in Kuala Lumpur.
Prices depend on the hall, the movie, and the day. IMAX, 4DX, and the bed halls cost more than a standard seat, and GSC has a special rate every Wednesday for standard halls, though it excludes special formats and some big releases.2
Book through the cinema's app and sign up for its rewards. We booked everything in the GSC app, which kind of sucks, but our points paid for our Getha Lux Suite tickets at the end. It's one of the apps we used in Kuala Lumpur that paid us back.
Tips for Going to the Movies in KL
Use the cinema for the rain. Afternoon storms are almost daily in KL, so we did our sightseeing in the morning and saved the cinema for the afternoon. Our guide to the best time to visit Kuala Lumpur explains the weather.
Pick the cinema by the mall. Every cinema here is inside a mall, so choose one in a mall you'd like to spend the evening in. TRX had the best food court, LaLaport had the anime shops, and Pavilion is the most central.
Skip the car park at night. A Grab is the easiest way to get to the cinema, but after a late movie, the mall car parks can be slow to get out of. The train avoids that completely, and our guide to getting around Kuala Lumpur covers the MRT and monorail.
Don't worry about the cold. The aircon was fine for us, and at Aurum we got blankets most of the time. Our guide to what to wear in Kuala Lumpur covers the malls too.
Movies are in English. The movies we saw were in English with subtitles, and around Lunar New Year the cinemas showed Chinese films too, so check the language before you book.
Get online before you land. You'll book tickets in an app and get there by Grab, so you'll want data from the moment you arrive. The easy way is to get an Airalo eSIM before you land, and our guide to the best eSIM for Malaysia compares the options.
Our Pick for Movie Night in Kuala Lumpur
Book Aurum Theatre at The Exchange TRX. Make IMAX your everyday movie, try a Getha Lux Suite once, and stay for dinner at the food court. If you're short on time, LaLaport is the easy option in Bukit Bintang.
