What we use

The short list behind 550+ days of full-time travel, and the US business that pays for it. We use everything here ourselves, and when we stop using something, it comes off the page.

Heads up: some links on this page are affiliate links. If you book or buy through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What lives in our bags

Our Amazon storefront

Our travel bag, unpacked

The camera gear, bags, cables, and small problem-solvers we actually carry, gathered in one place instead of scattered through fifty guides. When something wears out on the road, its replacement goes here.

Land already online

We install an eSIM for each country before we fly, so maps, rides, and the hotel check-in message work the moment we land.

For your business

How two people run a US company from the road

The part other creators ask us about most, in the order you will need it.

  1. 01 Form it

Start a US company without being in the US

doola forms the company and files the paperwork that comes with it, without you being in the country. Everything after this assumes you have one.

    Start with doola
  2. 02 Bank it

Business banking with no branch to visit

Opened and run entirely online, which was the whole point for us. You don't need to be a US citizen or resident, but your company does need to be registered in the US.

    Open a Mercury account
  3. 03 Earn from it

Get paid when your readers book

Add their links and maps to your own guides, and earn a share when a reader books through them.

“If we don't use it ourselves, it doesn't go on this page. If we stop using it, it comes off.”

Questions people ask us

Can I use Mercury if I do not live in the United States?

Possibly, but the company matters more than where you live. Mercury is built for businesses registered in the US, and it does not require you to be a US citizen or resident to apply. It does restrict some countries of residence, so check Mercury's own eligibility page for your situation before you count on it. We are not accountants or lawyers, so talk to one about your own setup.

Do I need a website to earn with Stay22?

For its referral bonus, yes. Stay22 pays a bonus when a creator you refer reaches 100 confirmed bookings, and a social media account on its own does not qualify, so the person you refer needs a real site. Check the current terms in the Stay22 dashboard, since the amounts change.

What eSIM should I get for a short trip?

Airalo, installed before you fly. For anything up to about two or three weeks it is the simplest option, and you land already connected. For a month or longer in one country, a local SIM is usually cheaper, so it is worth comparing once before a long stay.
