Kuala Lumpur has some of the most luxurious movie theaters we've ever been to, and our favorite was Aurum Theatre at The Exchange TRX. But look it up and there isn't one Aurum experience, there are five: IMAX, ScreenX, Maybank Comfort Cabin, Escape Studio, and Getha Lux Suite.2 Prices run from about RM55 (roughly $13) a seat to several hundred ringgit for two, and the names don't tell you what you're actually getting.

That was us the first time. We picked a Comfort Cabin, loved it, and then kept coming back. The Exchange TRX became our favorite place in Kuala Lumpur, and Aurum was a big reason why. It was part of our routine for the three months we lived in KL as digital nomads: a movie, a walk around the mall, and dinner at the food court.
By the end, we'd been to four of the five hall types, and I know exactly which one I'd book for which kind of night.

Which Aurum Theatre TRX Hall Should You Book? My Quick Answer
For an everyday movie, book IMAX: a huge screen, fully reclining seats, and popcorn and a drink included, for one of the lowest prices in the building. For a special night or a favorite movie, book the Getha Lux Suite, where you watch from a bed-style recliner with food and a drink from the menu served to your seat. Try ScreenX once for the novelty. The Maybank Comfort Cabin is lovely, but I'd pick IMAX over it unless you want food served to your seat.
| Hall | Screen and seats | Food included | Roughly (Sept 2026) | Book it for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| IMAX | Biggest screen, fully reclining seats | Popcorn and a drink | RM55–80 a seat | Any movie, any night |
| ScreenX | Screen wraps onto the side walls, reclining seats | Popcorn and a drink | RM50–70 a seat | One action movie, for fun |
| Maybank Comfort Cabin | Small hall, Stressless leather recliners | Food and a drink from the menu, served at your seat | From about RM230 for two | Dinner and a movie in one |
| Getha Lux Suite | Bed-style recliners with blankets | Food and a drink from the menu, served at your seat | From about RM280 for two | A favorite movie, a special night |
| Escape Studio | Themed halls (Paris, Tokyo, fashion, music) | Food and a drink from the menu, served at your seat | About RM120–150 a seat | We didn't try these |

Why Aurum at TRX Feels Different From a Normal Cinema
Aurum is the luxury cinema brand of GSC (Golden Screen Cinemas), and the one at The Exchange TRX is its biggest, with 11 halls. It opened in February 2024.6 It tops our ranking of the best cinemas in Kuala Lumpur.
The best part is that every ticket comes with food and a drink, whichever hall you book.2 In the cheaper halls that means popcorn; in the premium ones it's food and a drink from the menu, brought to your seat. Every hall also has reclining seats, so there's no "standard" option here. Even the cheapest ticket is a premium experience.
We started going because Aurum was replaying the movies nominated for the Oscars while we were in KL, and we kept going because a movie is the best way I know to wait out Kuala Lumpur's afternoon storms.

Every Aurum Theatre TRX Hall, Compared
1. IMAX // Our Everyday Pick
This is the hall we booked most. The IMAX screen is huge, the recliners are comfortable, and it's one of the cheapest tickets at Aurum, so it was easy to go again and again.
The ticket came with popcorn. We always got the mix of salty and sweet, and we'd add on a dark chocolate popcorn too, which was so good. With it, we just had water.
It was never crowded, either. We sat through plenty of IMAX showings where the hall was just the two of us.
If you're in KL for a while and like movies, this is the hall you'll keep coming back to. I don't usually need a meal during a movie because I'd rather eat at the TRX food court afterward, so IMAX gives me everything I want.

2. Getha Lux Suite // The Splurge for a Movie You Love
The Getha Lux Suite was our last Aurum experience, and it's the one people picture when they hear about KL's luxury cinemas. Each seat is a bed-style recliner made with Getha's premium plush cushioning, with a blanket and a built-in mini fridge.3
We ordered an Asian-style steak set: soup, rice, steak, dessert, and a drink, served to us in our seats. We also got popcorn, because of course we did. The food was good too.
This is where I'd watch a favorite. Marvel has been re-running some of its movies, and I'd see those in a Getha Lux Suite, hands down. It's a fun experience, and if you're only in Kuala Lumpur for a few days, it's the Aurum hall to try.

3. Maybank Comfort Cabin // Lovely, but IMAX Is Better Value
The Maybank Comfort Cabin was our very first Aurum movie. It's one of two small halls of about 40 seats each, with Stressless recliners and food and a drink from the menu included.2 We went when Aurum was re-showing the Oscar nominees, so the tickets were cheaper than usual, and the food and drink were still included.
We didn't know what to expect from the menu, and ordering soft shell crab and tea in a movie theater was kind of crazy.
It was so nice, but looking back, I'd choose IMAX over the Comfort Cabin. IMAX is cheaper and the screen is bigger, and I don't usually need a meal during a movie. And if I'm paying for a meal at my seat, I'd rather go all the way to the Getha Lux Suite.

4. ScreenX // Fun to Try Once
ScreenX extends the picture onto the side walls, so the image wraps around you for about 270 degrees in the big scenes.5 We saw The Super Mario Galaxy Movie here. The ticket came with popcorn, like IMAX.
It's fun to try, but I wouldn't do it often. For most movies, I'd rather have the IMAX screen in front of me.

5. Escape Studios // The Themed Halls (We Didn't Try These)
To be upfront, we never booked an Escape Studio, so this one isn't first-hand. Aurum TRX has four of them, each decorated around a theme: La Romance (Paris), Neon Nippon (Tokyo's Shinjuku at night), Couture (inspired by The Devil Wears Prada) and Rhapsody (music).2 Food is included here too, like every other hall at Aurum.
If the theme is part of the fun for you, they're worth a look. For us, the choice was always IMAX for everyday movies or Getha for a treat.
How We Got the Getha Lux Suite for Free
Go to Aurum often enough and it starts paying you back. Every ticket booked in the GSC app earns points (GSCoins) in GSC Rewards, and spending more moves you up the membership tiers, which unlock rewards like free birthday tickets. We went so often that by the end of our stay, our Getha Lux Suite tickets were free.
As of October 2026, GSC's rewards FAQ lists these Aurum TRX passes:7
- IMAX pass: 7,000 GSCoins
- ScreenX pass: 6,500 GSCoins
- Comfort Cabin pass: 15,000 GSCoins
- Escape Studio pass: 13,500 GSCoins
- Getha Lux Suite pass: 17,500 GSCoins
💡 Booking tips for Aurum TRX:
- Book in the GSC app and sign up for GSC Rewards before your first movie, so every ticket counts.
- Check the app's promotions before you book. Special runs and card deals can cut the price.
- Go in the afternoon, when the rain usually arrives, and do your sightseeing in the morning.
Before You Go
The GSC app is the weak spot. You book everything in it, and it's clunky. It's not a dealbreaker, just the least polished part of the whole experience.
Don't worry about the cold. The aircon was fine for us, and we got blankets most of the time.
Getting there. Aurum Theatre is inside The Exchange TRX, our favorite mall in KL, which connects to the Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) MRT station on the Kajang and Putrajaya lines.8 We lived in Bukit Bintang and always took a Grab, which is a short ride.
Make a night of it. Our routine was a movie, a walk around the mall, then dinner at the TRX food court. If you'd rather eat something more local, our guide to the must-eat foods in Kuala Lumpur has plenty to try before or after the movie.
Get online before you land. You'll book tickets in the GSC app and get to TRX by Grab, so you'll want data from the moment you arrive. The easy way is to get an Airalo eSIM before you land and switch it on at the airport.

So, Which Aurum Hall Is Worth It?
Every hall at Aurum Theatre at The Exchange TRX is a premium experience, so you can't really get it wrong. Make IMAX your everyday movie, and book the Getha Lux Suite once, for a movie you love. It's one of the reasons TRX was our favorite place in KL, and why a trip to the movies is on our list whenever someone asks whether Kuala Lumpur is worth visiting.
